Can Pain Relievers Prevent Cancer?

According to an Australian research report, aspirin and ibuprofen maybe the weapons against pre-cancers and squamous cell carcinomas. The findings of the study were reported in a recent Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

The study involved participants with healthy skin. They were administered a minimum of 300 milligrams of an non steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID)eight times a week to eases various conditions such as joint pain, arthritis, headaches and so forth.

The co-author of the study theorizes that non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) stop the activity of an enzyme that triggers blood vessel inflammation and growth.

Since an overabundance of aspirins, ibuprofen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) can cause damage to the kidney and lead to ulcers, researchers plan to investigate how smaller doses of these pain relievers may prevent cancer development.

Iowa Is the Mecca of Clinical Trials

Pharmaceutical companies are drawn to testing their products in Iowa. At present date over 13, 000 trials are in progress in the United States. Annually, more than 100,000 American patients and healthy subjects participate in clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, scientific research and the National Institutes of Health.

Across the country Iowa has gained a reputation for having study people who actually follow through in trials. Both the Food and Drug Administration, The National Institutes of Health as well The National Institutes of Health prefer clinical trials conducted in Iowa because they can depend on “clean” numbers. In the world of clinical trial clean number are important because it represents a low drop out rate. Unlike the “flaky” stigmatism associated with people from the West Coast, Iowans live up to their commitments – even if it means making several visits to a medical facility.
